8th Grade Class of 2026 Explores DPSCD High Schools

This year marks an exciting milestone for Barton Elementary Middle School as Barton Bears celebrate their first 8th grade class under the leadership of Principal Adams. As part of their transition to high school, students had the opportunity to visit two Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) high schools: Cody High School and Communication and Media Arts High School. During the visits, Barton’s 8th graders showed confidence and curiosity as they explored their potential future schools. They connected with current high school students, asked thoughtful questions, and learned about academic programs, athletics, band, and a wide range of extracurricular activities.

Students enjoyed touring classrooms, seeing learning in action, and getting a real feel for high school life. Their enthusiasm and engagement made it clear they are excited and ready for the next step in their educational journey. Principal Adams extends a sincere thank you to Principal Solomon and Principal Cox for the warm welcome and for providing such a positive and informative experience for Barton's 8th grade students.
